NYC Pass Math

The best NYC pass for couples? The same one that's best for one person.

Every NYC attraction pass is priced per person — no couples rate, no group pricing. The math for two people is exactly twice the math for one. That's not a drawback: when Go City Explorer saves $7 per person, it saves $14 for a couple. The gap doubles with every attraction you add.

TL;DR

Go City Explorer wins on this preselect at every itinerary length. At four attractions Explorer costs $119 per person versus $126 individually — $14 saved for a couple. At five, Explorer saves $29 each ($58 total). CityPASS costs $164 per person regardless and never beats Explorer.

At four attractions, Go City Explorer wins by $7 per person

A 4-attraction couple's itinerary — Empire State Building ($44), MoMA ($28), AMNH ($25), and 9/11 Memorial ($29) — costs $126 per person at the door, or $252 for two. Go City Explorer's 4-pick pass costs $119 per person — $7 less, $14 saved total. CityPASS costs $164 per person, $38 more than individual tickets and $45 more than Explorer. At four attractions, Explorer wins and nothing else comes close.

Add one more attraction and Explorer saves $58 for two

Add Top of the Rock ($38) to the same itinerary and the individual total rises to $164 per person — $328 for a couple. Go City Explorer's 5-pick pass costs $135 per person, saving $29 each or $58 total. CityPASS also costs $164 per person at five attractions — identical to buying individually, saving nothing. Explorer still wins, and the margin grows from $7 per person at four attractions to $29 at five.

Most couples want one observation deck, not three

NYC has three major observation decks: Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, and EDGE Hudson Yards — each $38–44. Pick one. All three are covered by both CityPASS and Go City Explorer, so your deck choice doesn't change the recommendation. Count your full itinerary: four attractions or more, Explorer saves money for both of you. Three attractions and individual tickets close the gap.

§ FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is there a couples discount on NYC attraction passes?
No — CityPASS, Go City Explorer, and Go City All-Inclusive are all priced per person. You buy two passes at the same individual rate. The only couples math is that per-person savings double: Explorer's $7-per-person saving at four attractions becomes $14 for a couple; at five attractions the $29-per-person saving becomes $58.
What if one of us is a student?
Switch the calculator to 'Student' — the result flips. Students buying four individual tickets pay $104, beating Explorer ($113) by $9. An adult-and-student couple optimizes separately: the adult buys Explorer ($119), the student pays individually ($104). You're not required to buy the same pass.
Do both people in a couple need to buy the same pass?
No. Passes are priced per person, and since two people visiting identical attractions run identical math, they reach the same recommendation. Where it makes sense to optimize separately: one person doing four attractions and one doing seven or more — Explorer wins at both lengths, but at different tier prices.
